Indonesia in The Global Competition

I've just read about Global Competitiveness Report (GCR) 2016-2017 since last week and I think it is so interesting. My focus in every study about global ranking is always about Indonesia. Where is the position of Indonesia right now? How come that happens? How if Indonesia is compared with other countries in ASEAN? Hahahaha such a nerd actually.

But, I do that just as casual remark. I will read it fast in order to just improve my knowledge about my country in global competition. Sometimes yeah I read thoroughly when I intend to write scientific article for instance, but it's rare LOL.

Back to GCR 2016-2017, it's interesting to know that position of Indonesia drops to 41 from 37 in last year list. The reason behind this is not because Indonesia gets bad in performance, but some countries successfully boost their performance hence overtake position above Indonesia. It can be seen from Indonesia's overall score which is 4.52 from scale ranges 1-7, still the same with last year score which was 4.52 also. But if we look back to 5 years ago, Indonesia has leaped far from 50 position in 2012-2013 or up 9 positions. FYI in 2014-2015, Indonesia got the best position in history which was the 34 position.

Compared with other countries, I usually choose Malaysia and Thailand, sometimes Vietnam also. But in my preference, Msia and Thailand are the two countries in ASEAN which Indonesia should compete with zealously hahaha. I don't put Singapore as competitor because it's too far away better than Indonesia (currently it takes the second position ha ha ha). In 2016-2017, Malaysia is ranked for 25 position and Thailand 34. What a though competition. But I can say it again that Indonesia has leaped far, compared with Msia and Thailand. In 5 years, Msia's rank is stagnant (25 to 25 again) while Thailand only ups 4 levels (38 to 34). This is not the end though. Indonesia has a lot of resources and young generations which will help this nation goes to the highest level. Go, Indonesia!!

In other sections of GCR, surprisingly, I read that Indonesia is categorized as The Efficiency-driven Stage in stage of development (pg 37-38). Based on GCRs explanation, stage of development comprises 3 stages as follows:

• First stage: factor driven which means country relies on primarily unskilled labor and natural resources.
• Second stage: efficiency-driven stage when country begins to develop more-efficient production processes by improving high skilled and educated labor, be able to harness the benefits of existing technologies, and has vast market. 
• Third stage as the highest: innovation driven stage when country can compete with the most sophisticated production processes and also be innovating. 

It is surprising because I thought Indonesia was still positioned in first stage or at least transition stage from 1 to 2 ha ha ha.. I am sorry, Indonesia. I am so proud though, knowing that Indonesia is beyond my expectation. And also, India (yes, India!) which is predicted as the new power of Asia with China, is still categorized as first stage country. I can't believe my eyes honestly. Well done, Indonesia! I know you will be the great nation someday, very soon!

Indonesia is now world's emerging economy

From the report, I also find Indonesia is mentioned many times for its large economy (top 10 world's largest), its low price of commodities which undermines the growth in region (I don't really understand though, I will study it later lol), and tragically for its worst health outcomes. And again, still not changed for decades I think, Indonesia's 3 most problematic factors of doing business are corruption, inefficient government bureaucracy, and inadequate infrastructure supply. Nevertheless, the most important thing is that Indonesia is considered as emerging economy which affects a lot in region and also the world.

Hijau Surabaya No 1

Hey, sudah lama ga posting ni hahaha.. sekali posting langsung materi berat. ya inilah kali ini aku pgn bahas ttg kota Surabaya yang bisa dibilang cukup berhasil dalam "menghijaukan" kota.

Kota Surabaya merupakan kota metropolitan kedua terbesar setelah Jakarta. Bisa dibilang kalo Jakarta hilang ya Surabaya bisalah ganti *naudzubillah janganlah* Secara fisik awam saja, wajah kota Surabaya hampir menyerupai Jakarta yang memiliki banyak gedung-gedung tinggi dan avenue atau jalan protokol yang sangaaat lebar.

Tapi kalo untuk masalah penghijauan, Surabaya boleh berbangga hati karena dibanding kota-kota lainnya, Surabaya lebih unggul dalam penataan infrastuktur hijaunya. tercatat telah ada 11 SPBU atau POM bensin mangkrak yang kini disulap menjadi taman kota. Wow what a great effort! good job Surabaya Major! Sekarang Surabaya benar-benar telah hijau dilihat dari sudut mana pun. Sempadan sungai yang rindang dan berbagai taman aktif lainnya yang sangat atraktif. Taman-taman itu antara lain taman bungkul, kalimantan, apsari, flora, sulawesi, yos sudarso, mayangkara, ronggolawe, dll. sebut saja taman bungkul yang merupakan salah satu taman berfasilitas terlengkap. ada jogging track, skateboard dan BMX track, plaza (untuk arena suatu penampilan/ performance), dan juga jaringan internet nirkabel, Wi-fi. semua itu bisa didapatkan dengan gratis. woy, gratis woy! hebat banget kan taman ini? oya untuk membangun taman ini pemerintah sampai mengucurkan dana IDR 1,2 milyar! :D

Ga cuma dalam membangun taman aja. pemkot Surabaya juga rajin menanam ribuan pohon di sepanjang jalan protokol dan menyulap jalur2 kosong di sepanjang jalan menjadi taman pasif yang mempercantik kota. Bahkan keseriusan pemkot dalam membangun kota ini juga meluluhkan hati Ridwan Kamil, seorang arsitek ternama yang sebelumnya enggan meneken kontrak dengan pemerintah. Selamat buat kepercayaan yang diberikan kepada pemkot surabaya sekarang :)

Surabaya sebagai kota metropolitan ternyata tidak melupakan pentingnya menjaga kelestarian ekosistem lingkungan. Selain mempercantik kota sebagai manfaat yang paling dapat dilihat, taman2 kota serta penghijauan sepanjang kota secara tidak langsung membuat udara kota menjadi bersih dan menyejukkan.

Indonesia Negara Rendah Hati

berasal dari kasus2 pengklaiman negara tetangga yang skrg lagi marak bkin aku berpikir sebenernya emang perlu ga si mengklaim sesuatu sebagai "milik" seseorang atau lebih besarnya negara? misal aja apel. yang aku tahu dari dulu ya apel tu buah. bukan buah khas mana. walo ada aja apel washington, apel fuji, apel malang tapi ga pernah tu aku denger atau lihat apel tu buah asli yang berasal dari negara X. aneh kan?

beralih ke masalah kita, Indonesia, sekarang. jujur kalo aku pikir sebenernya perlindungan hak cipta terhadap budaya tu ga penting. kalo bukan karena gegernya pengklaiman yang seenaknya dari negara tetangga itu aku rasa mematenkan budaya adalah hal yang sangat rumit dan tidak perlu dilakukan. kenapa? guys, ini budaya. budaya tu hanyalah sebuah kebiasaan yang dilakukan terus menerus oleh generasi ke generasi. budaya itu bukan suatu temuan yang di mana kita harus bersaing dengan yg lain sehingga harus dipatenkan supaya ga dijiplak. itulah fungsi paten sesungguhnya. sedangkan sebuah kebudayaan? kembali lagi aku ulang, ini lahir dari sebuah KEBIASAAN. bukan sesuatu yang sengaja dibuat orang jaman dahulu kala trus dijual ke sana ke mari.

yaaah itu cuma pendapat pribadi saya. kalo lihat situasi sekarang si emang kudu gitu semata2 buat proteksi aja. karena jaman globalisasi gini apa2 bisa dijual. tapi balik lagi sebenrnya ga penting de mematenkan dan mengklaim itu bahwa sesuatu asli, original berasal dari suatu negara.

Indonesia punya banyaaaak banget budaya dan penemuan yang harus dijaga. istilahnya orang kaya trus kekayaannya harus disimpen dicap semua dikasi label bahwa itu milik dia. buseeet repot! tapi entah harus dibilang bodoh atu emang rendah hati sejak dulu Indonesia terbuka atas segala miliknya. sbagai contoh ni:

1. dulu kokpit pesawat alias tempat di mana pilot mengoperasikan pesawat terdiri dari banyak orang layaknya kita membayangkan di film2 pesawat ruang angkasa yang dioperasikan banyak astonot. nah ada pun orang Indonesia bernama Bapak Wiweko yang pada saat itu menemukan ide yang brilian menyederhanakan kokpit itu menjadi hanya dioperasikan 2 orang saja. penemuan ini aslinya ingin dinamakan Wiweko kokpit tapi beliau dengan rendah hati menolaknya. walaupun begitu dunia penerbangan mengenang wiweko sebagai sosok bapak "kokpit 2 orang" http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiweko_Soepono

2. perang vietnam adalah perang selama 18 tahun yang paling lama dialami amerika serikat. letak dari kekalahan AS adalah strategi pertempuran vietnam yang menggunakan taktik gerilya yang dipelajari dari buku karya anak bangsa Jenderal Abdul Haris Nasution, berjudul Strategy of Guerrilla Warfare. buku ini sekarang menjadi buku pelajaran wajib akademi militer di sejumlah negara termasuk AS. sumber: Nyata-nyata Fakta karya Paul Harjojudanto

nah dari beberapa yang aku sebutin tu pertanyaannya adalah perlukah kita mengklaim semua itu bahwa itu dari Indonesia kepada dunia atau lebih2 lagi mempatenkan?? dan lagi apakah tindakan bapak wiweko itu sebuah kebodohan?

kalo saya pribadi merasa ITULAH BANGSA INDONESIA sesungguhnya. selalu rendah hati dan tidak arogan :)

Welcome to Jakarta

Yeah last week I visited Jakarta just for spending my holiday while I'm still waiting for the result of high school graduation. hmm although I've visited Jakarta for hundred times perhaps, I think my last visit was different. I tried challenge to use public transportation in Jakarta. On that day, my destination was Grand Indonesia. It is located in 'Gold Triangle' of Jakarta at Thamrin Avenue. FYI, Grand Indonesia uses a little part of building of Hotel Indonesia which now it has merger with Europe hotel corp ( forget the name of corp, sorry :P ). Grand Indonesia was inaugurated by The President of Indonesia last year. It is planned to be a mall with segment high class shopping center.

My adventure began at Sunday morning approximately 11 am. My house or exactly my older brother's house is located in BSD City, Tangerang, Indonesia. first, I had to use KRL (Kereta Rel Listrik) or Mass Transit. I waited for it at the station and bought the ticket only Rp4500 (US$1=Rp10000). KRL uses air conditioner and as a train, it is impossible to get traffic jam (the worst maybe the rail's broken, but I never hear that). Using KRL was so comfortable and nice. Or just because It was Sunday so it looked comfortable? hmm I don't know. but I suggest to the reader, you must try it!

then, I stopped and got down in Pondok Aren station. I connected my way by bus or metromini. Honestly, using metromini was the compulsion choice transportation in Jakarta. yeah because the bus was jerk. I think metromini must be reconstructed. but, without metromini, there is no big transportation on the road. there is another choice like Angkota or Public City Car but it is too small and narrow. Oh, the fee for Metromini on that day was Rp2000 until Bus Terminal Kota Blok M.

At terminal, located in Blok M, I went to underground tunnel to reach Bus Rapid Transit Shelter, named Transjakarta Busway. people like to say 'busway' for this transportation. Using this transportation was sooo comfortable!! It brought some facilities like air conditioner, self-way to avoid traffic jam, and the ease to know destination like this on bus, there was a voice every almost reach next shelter, for example: WELCOME TO TRANSJAKARTA, NEXT STOP BUNDARAN HI, CHECK YOUR BELONGINGS AND STEP CAREFULLY. woow it was SO amazing for me that domiciled in Semarang. eh eh... Using busway is relatively cheap. only Rp3500 you can use until last shelter.

At Bundaran HI, I got out and took some pictures in front of Bundaran HI. hmm.. It is one of the pride landmarks in Indonesia. then I stepped for some minutes to Grand Indonesia. It is near Bundaran HI. Walking there seems like in Singapore, yeah because pedestrian around there is 'life'. moreover its nightlife.


My purpose to Grand Indonesia was just want to know how it was. Also there was 30% sale to all items in Gramedia Bookstore, so I didn't want to pass it. Inside Grand Indonesia, I just could to say: It was a glamorous place! yeah, it really looked like high class mall! hmm... there, I decided just to try the food court and buy a book in Gramedia. because the price was as high as sky you know. I bought nasi goreng kambing or lamb fried rice at Sate Senayan Restaurant. I got it for Rp32000. Oh no! It was so expensive for food. but including the great place and the high class chairs and table, I thought it was enough. suitable price.


After lunch I went to Gramedia bookstore. I thought this Gramedia was different because it was 'no red' and mostly black and silver atmosphere. Finally, I found a nice book about traveling and it was RP50000. Don't forget the discount, so I got it just for Rp35000. Wow, great! I was fully satisfied here. :)

At last, the day was afternoon already. 2 pm. I stepped to bus way shelter and came back to Terminal Blok M, prepared to go back to BSD city.

How nice holiday. I got the different activities, have tried the public transportation in Jakarta and visited the no. 1 shopping center in Indonesia. haha :D thanks God for giving me a wonderful live!

I Want You to Visit My Archipelago

Actually I won't write this story in English, but I think maybe there are some blog walkers read my promotional story, so here they are:

In 2008, Indonesia held a big promotional tourism event called Visit Indonesia Year 2008: celebrating 100 years of national awakening. This event is so special because the last promotional event that Indonesia has held is VIY 1991, 17 years passed! yeah, Indonesia in millennium era was 'broken' because of many kinds of problems in economics, politics, and it destroyed some schedule of development.

Now, Indonesia has held VIY 2009 in this year. We try to continue this tourism event with the same tourism symbol. Even the target of amount of visitors in 2008 didn't reached but VIY 2008 increased the amount of tourists rather than 2007. so, let's keep trying :)


FYI, if you haven't known yet what Indonesia is and where it is, Indonesia is located between Asia and Australia. even you look Indonesia from big scale map, you exactly will see Indonesia. will u try it? :) The capital city of Indonesia is Jakarta, the modern and metropolitan city in Indonesia. Jakarta has a lot of high-rise building, shopping center, dreamland, and modern attraction as the characteristic of metropolitan.

Okay, now I want to share you about this archipelago. Indonesia has a lot of tourism objects. I recommend tourism objects you can name them 'international certificated' . they are Bali, Borobudur, and Bunaken.


Bali is the most famous destination of tourists around the world! This island is so exotic and 'warm'. since several decades ago, Bali is the nation's hope of tourism. from teenagers until the old men (who want to enjoy their retired time), Bali is the paradise! You can do surfing on big wave, enjoy its beach, sleep in cottage hotel, shopping, or so far you can study its traditional culture which is still exist nowadays. and trust me, Bali is save.

next,

Borobudur. It is the biggest Buddhist temple in the world. It's located in Central Java or locals named it Jawa Tengah. It was built by Samaratungga thousands years ago. Borobudur get the award from UN as the world heritage. The uniqueness is it just built only by stone!


Bunaken. It is the finest diving area which contains a lot of beautiful corals. International Coral Reef Action Network (ICRAN) has certified Bunaken 97%-pure of water purity. Its promotional advertisement in cyber has named it THE GREAT WALL OF THE WORLD. no! China is the one! wait a minute... China has a man-made wall and Bunaken has an earth natural wall inside the sea. so it's different. :)

If you want to visit Indonesia, it would a good time. It has 2 international gates. You can come to Jakarta, as the capital city, or Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali. And from those 2 cities, you can continue your trip by land, sea, or on air. Indonesia serves flight which is organized by Garuda Indonesia Airlines. And trust me again, It is save! Garuda Indonesia is the top of the safest ranking of flight in Indonesia and rarely get accident.

What about the cost? The price in Indonesia relatively cheap and interesting. It will be the best choice for you to make a trip in a global crisis today.
